The SM Resort Patong is yet another new resort which has opened its doors to the public in Patong beach in recent months. The SM Resort Patong is operated by the Lamai Hotel Group which is a relatively small local hotel company and which also operates such properties as the Lamai Hotel, the Lamai Guesthouse and the Lamai Inn. The SM Resort Patong is the first property which does not use Lamai in its name. More and more hotel owners and managers are contacting me in regards to adding a review of their property or to change an existing review and in this case I was asked by one of the managers if I could do a site inspection so as to be able to add a SM Resort review to our handy online Phuket travel guide.

The SM Resort in Patong Beach is a budget hotel similar to the other properties of the Lamai Hotel Group. This company aims to provide clean and comfortable holiday accommodation to budget travelers and the SM Resort Patong is in my opinion nicer than the other properties which the Lamai Hotel Group operates. The SM Resort Patong is a medium sized Patong hotel which offers 50 modern and comfortable guest rooms to travelers and tourists. Room rates start at just over 1100 Thai Baht per room per night yet I expect that during the low season real bargains can be obtained at the SM Resort Patong as many hotels and resorts will then struggle to fill up their rooms and suites.

The SM Resort Patong is actually located on the outskirts of Patong along the road which leads from Patong beach to Karon beach. The SM Resort Patong is located very near to Simon Cabaret and this area of Patong is still relatively undeveloped compared to most other areas of Patong beach. If you do stay at this budget resort in Patong then I would suggest that you rent a car or motorbike as it is a long walk down to the center of Patong and even the white sandy beach of Patong. That is the only negative thing which I could really say about the SM Resort Patong however please note that many travelers will perhaps actually prefer the somewhat remote location of this Patong budget resort as they will be able to enjoy a more quiet and peaceful vacation in Patong this way.

The Patong SM Resort opened its doors at the end of 2009 and I visited this Patong budget hotel shortly after it opened. I must say that I was very much impressed by the lovely looking building in which the SM Resort Patong is situated. The 4 story building is designed in a contemporary Thai style and is definitely very pleasing to the eye. The front desk was a bit small and cluttered however the overall look of the lobby area where very modern and offered a wonderful ambiance. I have visited some of the other properties in the Lamai hotel group in the past and from what I saw the SM Resort is by far the nicest of all of these holiday resorts and hotels on Phuket Island.

I would recommend the SM Resort Patong to anyone who is looking for affordable holiday accommodation in Patong beach and preferably to those who are not really all that interested in staying in a busy area of Patong. The SM Resort Patong does offer some nice facilities so I would recommend this resort to couples, families as well as single travelers.

I also visited some of the rooms at the SM Resort Patong and I must say that I liked these rooms more than the rest of the resort. The rooms are designed in a modern Thai style and are very impressive considering that the SM Resort Patong is only a 3 star property. Although there are 50 rooms at the SM Resort Phuket in Patong beach, there are in fact several different room categories and these include superior rooms, deluxe rooms and sweet suite rooms.

There are some nice facilities and services which guests can enjoy during their stay at the SM Resort Patong and these include for example a nice outdoor swimming pool, a beauty salon, spa massage services and an elevator. There is also a rather nice restaurant at the SM Resort Patong and it is open 24 hours per day which is not something you will find at many hotels and resorts on the island of Phuket. The SM Resort restaurant has a rather extensive menu which includes local dishes, Chinese dishes, European dishes and Seafood dishes.
