Racha Islands
Racha Islands (also known as Raya Islands) is one of the best daytrip destinations from mainland Phuket. Best known for its excellent natural configuration for snorkeling and diving, it lays about 12 kilometers south of Phuket and about 24 kilometers from Chalang pier. There are two islands namely Racha Yai and Racha Noi. Although daytrips are more popular, Racha Islands, especially the Racha Yai Island is experiencing some recent developments of resorts and bungalows. Racha Noi is not an inhabited island. But it offers few excellent diving spots.
Racha Islands has got two bays where tourists land. Ao Tawan Tok is a long U-shaped bay where most boats arrive. The other bay is called Ao Siam. Clear blue waters and fine white sands are what make Racha Islands so attractive. It is a perfect place for snorkeling. Ao Tawan Tok is comparatively busier at afternoons than the quiet Ao Siam.
You have to rent long tail boats either from Chalong pier or Rawai Beach to get to Racha Islands. Alternatively you may resort to speedboats from these two departure points. The trip to Racha Islands may take about forty five minutes to an hour depending upon your transportation means.
