Recently I came across the Popeye’s Place Guesthouse in Kamala Beach after hearing about this guesthouse in Kamala beach from one of the readers of our online Phuket travel guide. Popeye’s Place in Kamala beach is a small and friendly guesthouse and is ideal for those travelers and tourists who are looking for budget holiday accommodation in Kamala Beach. For sure I have seen nicer looking guesthouses in Phuket but I was immediately attracted to the great atmosphere which I found at the Kamala Popeye’s Place Guesthouse and a lot of that had to do with the great owners of this guesthouse in Kamala beach.

The Phuket Popeye’s Place Guesthouse in Kamala Beach is owned and managed by a nice couple, Sam and Sven who is also known as Popeye due to the fact that he smokes a pipe and wears a sailor style hat. Popeye is from Denmark and he and his charming and rather lovely Thai wife have put their heart and soul into this guesthouse in Kamala Beach. I am therefore not surprised that this Kamala guesthouse is one of the more popular and successful guesthouses in Kamala beach.

At the front of Popeye’s Place Guesthouse there is a restaurant, internet shop and a minimart and all of them are owned and operated by the same owners of this guesthouse in Kamala Beach. I would like to put my focus on the Popeye’s Place restaurant as it is one of the more popular restaurants in this part of Kamala. The restaurant menu includes Thai and Western specialties and I would like to point out that the menu also includes some really popular Isaan dishes which come from the Isaan region in the North East of Thailand. As with the Popeye’s Place Guesthouses, there is also a very warm and friendly atmosphere at the restaurant and that together mixed with the low prices and great food has been a key to the success of this little yet very charming Kamala Beach restaurant. I would like to mention that there is also a nice outdoor swimming pool located on the property which guests can obviously use free of charge.

The accommodation at this guesthouse in Kamala beach is very affordable as well as clean and comfortable. Don’t expect any luxuries at the Popeye’s Place Guesthouse but I am sure that you will find little to complain about. I personally would not mind staying at this Kamala guesthouse as the prices are affordable and the location is excellent. The main building at this guesthouse in Kamala Beach consist of 11 spacious rooms and basic facilities such as international television programming, mini bar, private bathroom and air-conditioned are included in each room. Room rates start at only 600 Thai Baht per room per night during the tourist low season.

I would however recommend for you to book one of the 5 Thai style bungalows which are also part of the Popeye’s Place guesthouse in Kamala beach. The bungalows offer the same facilities as the regular rooms however obviously you can enjoy a bit more privacy at these Kamala bungalows. The rates for the bungalows of this Kamala guesthouse start at 1000 Thai Baht per bungalow per night.

There is also a Popeye’s Villa which this Kamala guesthouse rents out but it is located at a different location in Kamala Beach. The Popeye’s Villa has a private swimming pool and large families can easily be accommodation at this Kamala pool villa. The villa prices start at around 150 USD per night.
