Phuket Wedding
The most common type of Phuket wedding is the wedding ceremony at a local Phuket Buddhist temple. Basically anyone can enjoy such a romantic Phuket wedding ceremony and there is nearly no paper work involved. Many Thai people even prefer this type of Phuket wedding as it is cheap and there is no hassle involved with paperwork. Please note however that this type of Phuket wedding is not legally binding as it is only a wedding which is recognized by the temple and the monks. You can also have a Christian Phuket wedding service and even a Muslim Phuket wedding ceremony. So you can be pretty certain that there will certainly be a Phuket wedding that will match your requirements or wishes.
If you however want to do a Phuket wedding which is legally binding and recognized back in your own country then there various steps that you need to follow and various documents which you need to get before heading over to Phuket for your special Phuket wedding.
The first document which you will require for your Phuket wedding is a document from your own embassy in Bangkok which states that you are single and that you are allowed to get married. People have tried in the past to take this type of document from their home country however it will unfortunately not get accepted so it is critical that you visit your embassy at least a week before your planned Phuket wedding so that you can pick up your signed statuary declaration forms. This is however only the beginning of your Phuket wedding journey.
Once you have these documents which have been signed off by embassy staff then you will need to find a good translator in Bangkok which will translate these Phuket wedding documents into Thai. Once this is done you will need to head over to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs where you will need to have to get your Phuket wedding documents certified and stamped off. Unfortunately there is plenty of red tape in Thailand so this certification will not be right away. You will need to wait between two and four working days. It is possible that if you offer some tea money then this process could move ahead faster. Welcome to Thailand!
If you are planning to marry a Thai partner then your partner should get their statuary declaration document from the city hall in her home town or province.
The next step in organizing all the legalities for your Phuket wedding is to go to the Phuket district office with your certified documents so that you can apply for your Phuket wedding license and the day on which your Phuket wedding will be registered. On the actual day of your Phuket wedding you will go to the local district office in Phuket town for the actual wedding. You should take a translator with you so that they can organize all the paperwork and translations. You will be issued a Phuket wedding certificate which you can take back home so that your marriage will also be recognized in your home country.
An easy way around most of the hassle of organizing the Phuket wedding and the various documents and translations is by simply hiring one of the local Phuket wedding planners. The prices for these Phuket wedding planners do vary however for around 200 Euros they should be able to organize all the basics for you.
