Phuket By Train
If you cannot afford or miss a Flight to Phuket by any chance, don’t worry. Trains are available at regular intervals with cheaper costs to help you reach Phuket. Although trains do not directly reach Phuket, you can take a connecting trip by bus to Phuket Town. From Bangkok, take a train from Hualamphong railway station to Phun Phin station near Surat Thani. There are regular trains, rapid trains, express trains, and the Sprinter or special express trains. This journey would take about long 12 hours. But the quality and variety of services available in a train journey can make it quite enjoyable in deed.
From an assortment of train types and timings you can choose the one that best suits your travel needs. Night trains are more comfortable with excellent sleeping-berth opportunities. As you arrive at Phun Phin station, you need to take a bus that reaches Phuket Town by 5-6 hours. Your options remain open within the fourteen coaches that shuttle between Surat Thani and Phuket. The bus trip takes about 5-6 hours.
Trains leaving Bangkok usually have three classes (First, Second and Third Classes) although some trains may not have First Class. First Class includes air-conditioned private two-berth compartments having washbasins. Second class compartments are usually divided into two types. Fan-sleeper compartments are noisier due to open window option. You can opt for the other comfortable alternative – the air-conditioned carriage. Naturally it is not suggested to take the Third Class option. A 12 hours journey would be pretty difficult on hard bench type seats it offers.
Trains of Thailand have catering cars offering snacks and hot meals throughout the journey. For a detailed idea on train services don’t forget to contact State Railway of Thailand over a telephone call (number 02 220 4334). .
