Phuket Bus

The main Phuket bus station is located in Phuket Town. Thailand has an excellent bus service and this inexpensive transportation method is popular among both Thai travelers as well as foreign tourists. The main Phuket bus terminal is located across the street from the Phuket Royal City Hotel which is right in the center of Phuket Town. If you would like to call the main Phuket bus station then please note that the phone number is: +66 – 76 – 211480.

Where ever you need to go in Thailand, you can almost certainly reach it by bus. If you head down to the main Phuket bus station then you can simply state where you need to go and they can arrange the bus tickets for you. If you are lucky then there is a direct bus service, it not then they will advice you where you will need to switch bus. There are direct bus services to many popular Thai destinations including Bangkok, Krabi and Hat Yai for example.

What makes traveling by bus somewhat different in Thailand is that you will often have a wide range of options when it comes to the type of bus that you will be taking. There are often also a number of different bus companies competing on the same bus route. Please note however that there are a few main differences you should take note off before heading down to the Phuket bus terminal.

The cheapest busses which you can book at the Phuket bus station tend to be the orange busses. Many times they do not have air-conditioning, toilets and they will stop many times dropping off and picking up passengers. The blue busses at the Phuket bus station all have air-conditioning, bathroom facilities and they stop less frequently. You can also book the VIP bus which is basically one of the blue busses and even super VIP busses which tend to have less seats and thus are more comfortable.

Please also note that for long haul destinations such as Bangkok the busses tend to leave from the Bangkok bus station during the early and late hours of the evening so that people can sleep during the ride and so that there is less traffic on the roads. The bus journey to Bangkok from Phuket for example takes about 12 hours on one of the VIP busses.
