The majority of the antique shops are located on two streets: Yaowarat Road and Phang Nga Road. The shops feature items from a number of countries including North and South China, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Vietnam.
88 Ancient Art is a gallery that is located on Yaowarat Road. It has items from China, Vietnam and Cambodia. Budda images from the Bovan period in Cambodia are the owners speciality. He also has many vases from the Ming dynasty in China. What’s more, is they have a nice collection of celadon from Vietnam displayed.
Also on Yaowarat Road is Ban Boran antiques. They stock hard to find silver and gold items like dory jewelry from South India, silverware from Egypt and Pakistan and rare opium weights from China. They also have Thai leather puppets like those used in Malaysian wayang kuilt shows.
Touch of Wood Antique is a furniture shop located further down on Yaowarat Road. They have antique furniture from Burma, Vietnam and Laos. Collectors will enjoy pieces from the Colonial, Victorian and Edwardian error. Plus, the shop has a nice amount of teak and cane furniture.
You can find Phang Nga Road by turning left at the end of Yaowarat Road. Puk shop is specializes in antiques that have been collected by Phuket residents. The shop also carries an array of tourist Knick Knacks, but it is far from a souvenir shop. Puk’s charmingly cluttered interior has remained a crowded mess of secret treasures for some time. Vistors who comb the shelves of this shop are likely to find rare keepsakes like Burmese manuscripts and ceremonial chests from China.
Phang Nga Road is also home to Antique Arts. This store has a large selection of porcelains, brass, and laquerware from the South Chinese trading port of Amoy. Most of Phuket’s native residents descend from Amoy. Regular trips to this ancestral village keep the owner of Antique Arts well stocked with antique furniture and objects of Chinese origin.
