In the nearly 10 years that I have lived in Thailand I have befriended many Phuket bar girls that work in the bars in Phuket. I can't even count how many times I visited different Phuket girls that I knew on their deathbed in the hospital because of Aids.
Some of these girls looked as healthy and as good as they ever did and a couple of months later they suddenly died due to aids related complications. These girls kept working at the bars in Patong until they were finally too sick to walk and had to be brought to a government hospital such as Patong hospital where they will lie in the poor peoples section and get basically no treatment.
Don't forget, you are coming to a developing country which is known for its adult entertainment industry and its big problems with Aids. Phuket is no different and there are many new Phuket Aids and Phuket HIV infections being added to the list each month. Also please note that the problem is also very present in the gay Phuket scene.
I have met many tourists and expats on Phuket over years who simply refused to wear protection for what ever invalid excuse they had. I even many more then a few guys who don't believe in Aids / HIV or don't believe that these cute little Phuket Bar Girls in the Phuket nightlife industry could have been infected. How naive and stupid are you guys, do you feel suicidal or what?
I have also met a large number of older guys, both expats and tourists, who refuse to wear a rubber and they
say that they are tool old too care about Aids / HIV as they will die of old age before Aids catches up to them. That's fine with me, if they want to ruin their live and health then go for it.
But what they do not think about is the fact that even after getting the HIV virus from one girl, they will continue to sleep with dozens of other Phuket girls afterwards and thereby passing the virus to others and therefore basically giving these poor Phuket bar girls the death sentence. These girls will in turn be unaware that they have been infected and will keep working at the bars every night and sleep with maybe 5 or 10 guys a week. Half the time it will most likely be unprotected and the Phuket Aids problem keeps spreading.

Many of these bar girls in Phuket once they realize that they are infected with HIV or actually have progressed to full blown Aids will not return back to their home towns as they are ashamed or their families wouldn't let them back into their homes. These Phuket girls with Aids will have no other option then to stay in the bar scene and to keep going with customers. These Phuket Aids victims often have no insurance and the government health care program does not really provide any good HIV/Aids medicine. They also really could not care less if you will be using a rubber as in their eyes, you the western man, gave them Aids so they wont feel any guilt in returning the favour.
So please guys, don't be stupid, make sure you wear protection at all times even if you know the Phuket girl for a longer period of time. Don't forget, her job is to sleep with as many tourists as she can. If you think she is faithful while you are back home in the west and she is waiting for your return then you are also a fool.
