You are normally expected to pay a two month deposit when renting a Patong apartment. It can however be difficult to get your security deposit returned to you when you end your stay at your Patong apartment so be sure to have a proper rental contract and receipts for any security deposits and other payments that you make to the owner of the Patong apartment in question.
