One of my biggest discovering of my recent exploration of Phuket was the wonderful Thai style resort at Maikhao Beach which was called Maikhao Sea Side Cottages. Although I am certain that plenty of tourists and travelers would live to stay at the Mai Khao Seaside Cottages, I do think that especially backpackers will love this Thai style cottage and bungalow resort which is located directly along the virgin white sandy beach of Maikhao and only meters away from the crystal blue waters of the Andaman Sea.

Maikhao beach is actually a very long beach and it was only by change that I found the little dirt track which lead to the Maikhao Sea Side Cottages. It seems that this Thai style cottage resort must have been there for quite some time but I never saw the place before or heard anyone talk about it as it’s located in a part of Phuket which I unfortunately rarely go to. However I am certainly very pleased that I did find the Maikhao Sea Side Cottages Resort so that I can add a review of this Phuket budge resort in our handy online Phuket travel guide.

I must say though that the Mai Khao Seaside Cottages Resort is not the type of resort which everyone will want to stay at due to several points. First of all the accommodation provided at this Mai Khao resort is very basic and the location of the Maikhao Sea Side Cottages resort is rather remote so if you want to be close to many shops, restaurants or bars then perhaps you should look for holiday accommodation elsewhere. However if you are backpacking or simply looking for a cheap and very traditional style cottage resort on Phuket then the Mai Khao Sea Side Cottage Resort will be a very suitable option for you indeed.

I did do a walk through this Phuket cottage resort and I must say that it does offer a unique type of atmosphere and most of the guests which I saw who were staying at the Maikhao Sea Side Cottages Resort seemed to be young Europeans or Australians who wouldn’t look out of place on Khaosan road in Bangkok. The staff at this cottage resort in Phuket was friendly enough but I was unable to find anyone who could speak a decent level of English but I don’t think that the guests of the Mai Khao Seaside Cottages mind very much.

There are different accommodation options available at this resort at Mai Khao beach and some are a bit more basic than others. I am also pleased to inform you that this Phuket cottage resort also offers camping facilities for those of you who have your own tend and who are looking for a Phuket camp site. The cost of camping at the Maikhao Sea Side Cottages is only 200 Thai Baht per tent per night.

The nicest accommodation available at the Maikhao Seaside Cottages is the round cottages which have an en suite bathroom but as with all the other cottages and bungalows at this Mai Khao beach resort, there is no television or air-conditioning available in these cottages. However there is nice furnishings and the beach is located only 15 meters away from the beach. The price for this cottage is 2000 Thai Baht per night including an English or Thai breakfast.

The next type of accommodation at the Mai Khao Sea Side Cottages is the beach huts which are rather small and you are basically sleeping on the floor and there is no bathroom. There is a small fan available in the beach huts. The price is around 700 Thai Baht per night. Then there are also some rather small bamboo huts which are available for 250 Thai Baht per person per night but these huts offer no luxuries whatsoever and I could personally not imagine staying in one of these bamboo huts.

Facilities and services wise there is not too much I can really mention about the Maikhao Sea Side Cottages as there is no swimming pool or spa for example. However you do have the wonderful beach right on your doorstep. There is a restaurant and bar in the resort and I did try out some of the dishes during my visit and the prices were incredibly cheap and the food was really tasty. There are also some other smaller beach side restaurants within easy walking distance of the resort.
