Mai Khao Beach

Phuket does not only have a rich culture as seen from their temples. But Phuket is also abundant with beaches. Some has already been touched by modernization while others still remain to be untouched. The Mai Khao Beach is one of the summer spots in Phuket that remains to be undeveloped until now. Not because investors are not interested to build hotels or restaurants in the area, but because the Mai Khao Beach is part of the Sirinat National Park. The only modern establishment that can be seen here in Mai Khao Beach is the JW Marriott Resort & Spa to accommodate some of the tourists going here.

The word “Mai Khao” simply means white wood. But there are actually no white trees that can be found here in Mai Khao Beach. It was only in 1981 that the Mai Khao Beach became part of the Sirinat National Park. This is to protect the rare marine creature called Olive Ridley Sea Turtle that lays their eggs here in this particular beach during the month of November until the month of February.

The Mai Khao Beach is ideal for swimming during the summer season. However, during the other months, you can see large waves which makes it very dangerous for swimmers especially for the kids. But this is the excellent time for all the surfers to visit the beach. The large waves are great for blood-rushing activities including surfing. More often than not, large waves happen during the month of May until the month of October.
