Koh Yao Islands


Many tourists that stay on Phuket for a holiday are combining this with a stay of a few days on one of the smaller islands nearby to Phuket. The Koh Yao islands have become increasingly popular which can also be seen in the number of new hotels and resorts that are opening up on the Koh Yao islands.

There are in fact two different Koh Yao islands. The larger of the two Koh Yao islands is called Koh Yao Yai which means Koh Yao Large. The smaller of the two Koh Yao islands is called Koh Yao Noi which means Koh Yao small. The smaller of the two Koh Yao islands is in fact the one where most tourist development can be currently found.

Koh Yao Islands Location

The Koh Yao islands are located in the bay of Phang Nga and are roughly located half way in between Krabi and Phuket. The Koh Yao islands can be reached from both Phuket and Krabi by boat. If you are staying on Phuket and would like to take the trip to the Koh Yao islands then you should head over to the Bang Rong Pier which is located to the east of Thalang. The easiest way to get here if you do not have your own form of transportation is by taking a taxi. Please be sure to ask your Phuket hotel concierge for more information about prices. Most of the boats that take tourists up to the Koh Yao islands are the traditional long tail boats. The cost of a one way ticket on a long tail boat to the Koh Yao islands should cost you around fifty Thai Baht and the travel time is around one hour. There are scheduled departure times which are normally at 09:30 AM, 12:00 and at 17:00 PM.

Koh Yao Hotels

There are some really fantastic Koh Yao hotels and resorts. Please note that the Koh Yao islands are much smaller then Phuket so please do not expect a massive selection of Koh Yao islands hotels and resorts to choose from. The more luxurious hotels and resorts on the Koh Yao islands are in fact located on Koh Yao Noi Island. Some of these wonderful Koh Yao hotels and resorts include: The Paradise Koh Yao Resort, Koyao Bay Pavilions and the Koh Yao Island Resort. As many of these Koh Yao hotels are rather luxurious and secluded, many honeymooners prefer to spend their honeymoon at one of the resorts or hotels on the Koh Yao islands rather than spending their honeymoon on the noisier and bustling Phuket Island.

Koh Yao Islands Activities

The main attraction of the Koh Yao Islands is its beautiful white sandy beaches and the crystal blue water of the Andaman Sea. If you are however looking for a travel destination which is filled with many types of activities then perhaps the Koh Yao islands are not really suitable for you.
