It has been a while since I added a new review for a bar in Kata beach which is why I am pleased to add a review of Duke’s Kata Beach. This is a new sports bar in Kata beach which only opened its doors to the public a few months ago. I normally do not visit the bars in Kata beach very often but I made an exception for Duke’s Sports Bar in Kata beach after hearing some great reports about this sports bar in Kata beach from friends who had visited this Kata beach venue.

The actually name of Duke’s Kata Beach is the Duke’s Big Board Bar as the American couple which started this bar is definitely surf fans and they names their new Phuket surf bar after Duke Kahanamoku who is well known legend in the surfing world. As I mentioned, Duke’s Kata Beach is owned by an American couple which is also somewhat rare on Phuket to find a bar which is owned by a Western couple. Mark and Karen Ellison is a very lovely couple and they do an extremely good job in managing their new sports bar in Kata beach. I have mentioned very often in our handy online Phuket guide that the owners are often the most important factor of any bar, restaurant or guesthouse on Phuket as they can make or break their new venue. In the case with Duke’s Kata Beach I am certain that this Kata beach sports bar will be a success due to these wonderful and lovely owners from the US. I would also like to mention that they have hired an excellent team of Thai staff including the ever so charming Khun Kai who is the bar manager of Duke’s in Kata beach.

If you are living on Phuket or are simply visiting and want to visit a nice bar on Phuket where you can watch all the games live then I would definitely recommend for you to head down to Duke’s Sports Bar in Kata beach. Unlike many other sports bars on Phuket, Duke’s Big Board Bar in Kata beach actually show a very large variety of different sports on their giant televisions and including for example live cricket games, NBA games, tennis matches, American Football, Rugby, Nascar, Soccer and the list goes on. Duke’s Kata Beach shows games from the following satellites: DSTV, ASN TV, SuperSport, ESPN Star and TrueVision.

A great time to visit Duke’s Kata Beach is between 3 and 8 PM every day as then happy hour prices apply. Please note that there is ample parking available next to this sports bar in Kata beach for either your scooter or car.
