Chalong Bay
The pier at Chalong Bay in Phuket is rather remarkable as it is seven hundred and twenty meters in length. It should therefore come as no surprise that there is actually transport provided for many people from the start of the pier to their boat. Chalong Bay Location
Chalong Bay is located in the South Western section of Phuket. If you are interested in visiting Chalong Bay then there are several roads that can take you to this charming Phuket beach area. If you are driving from Phuket Town then you can simply take the road south bound which will take you past Wat Chalong straight into Chalong Bay. If you are coming from the Patong beach or one of the nearby Phuket beaches then you have two options when it comes to driving to Chalong Bay. You can either take the coastal road on the West Coast of Phuket all the way South past Nai Harn Beach and Rawai or then keep following the signs to Chalong Bay or you drive over the Patong hill into Kathu and take the road to Chalong Bay from Kathu.
Chalong Bay Activities
As the water of the Andaman Sea is not really good for swimming as it is rather muddy, many people prefer to use another Phuket beach. If you would however only like to lie on the beach and get a sun tan then you can definitely use the beach at Chalong Bay. Another obvious benefit is that it is not really crowded. There are a large number of Phuket dive schools and shops located in Chalong as this is where the main pier is located. If you would like to do some diving then the Phuket guide would like to suggest for you to shop around for a good deal in Chalong Bay as prices will probably be cheaper then with dive shops and schools in Patong beach or Karon beach for example. If you like sailing and yachting then you should definitely visit the Ao Chalong Yacht Club in Chalong Bay. There are plenty of other activities which you can enjoy in the Chalong area of Phuket. Some of these activities include a Phuket shooting range, Thai Kickboxing classes and deep sea fishing trips.
Chalong Bay Hotels and Resorts
Most of the accommodation options offered directly at Chalong Bay in Phuket consist of Phuket guesthouses. If you would like to stay at a proper Phuket hotel or resort then you should look in the direction of Rawai Beach, Nai Harn Beach or Cape Panwa.
Chalong Bay Restaurants
Although there might not be many hotels or resorts at Chalong Bay, there are however a large number of excellent Chalong Bay restaurants. There are many expats that live in the Chalong Bay area of Phuket which has lead to many great western style restaurants having been opened at Chalong Bay. My personal favorite restaurant in this area of Phuket is Jimmy’s Lighthouse. They have some wonderful Tex Mex dishes and you can enjoy a nice drink or game of pool at this Chalong Bay restaurant. If you are in the mood for some excellent Fresh seafood then you should definitely give the ever so popular Kan Eang @ Pier restaurant a shot. Palai Seafood restaurant is another popular Phuket Seafood restaurant in Chalong Bay which you should definitely also try. Another very popular farang restaurant in Phuket in the Chalong Bay area is the Green Man Pub. This wonderful English pub offers great English dishes and is a popular meeting spot for local Phuket expats.....
