Baan Nitra
I came across the Baan Nitra Patong guesthouse recently whilst having a closer look at all the buildings which are located along the ever so popular Nanai Road which is situated along the foothills of Patong. You can find guesthouses in all areas of Patong including in the beach road area of Patong however it certainly seems that the highest concentration of Patong guesthouses can be found in the Nanai road area of Patong. This is why I most likely never noticed the Baan Nitra Patong guesthouse before until only a short while ago.
Unlike many of the other Patong guesthouses along Nanai Road, the Baan Nitra guesthouse is located in a standalone 3 story building. The Baan Nitra Patong Guesthouse is located in the northern section of Nanai road which is home to a number of different guesthouses, small bars and some nice Thai & western restaurants. The beach of Patong is situated about a 10 minute walk away and if you want to walk down to Bangla road then it would take a few minutes longer.
Baan Nitra is not located in one of the new buildings along Nanai road in Patong beach however the building seems to be well maintained as well as the guest rooms and the public areas of this Nanai road guesthouse. When I first visited the Baan Nitra guesthouse in Patong beach I was immediately welcomed by the two wonderful owners of this Patong guesthouse. The owner’s name is John and he is a very pleasant fellow from Scotland who runs the Baan Nitra Phuket guesthouse along with Bai who is his charming Thai wife. Staying at a guesthouse is very much different than staying at a regular hotel or resort and one of the factors which are very important in the success or failure of a guesthouse in Patong is its owners. The owners need to be able to be present the vast majority of the time and they need to manage the guesthouse hands on. What is also very important is that the owner of a Phuket guesthouse such as the Baan Nitra Guesthouse is that he or she is very friendly and is able to create an amiable atmosphere. If they are able to do so then they will often have many repeat customers. This is what a successful guesthouse in Patong beach really needs to have. John runs the front of the house of the Baan Nitra Guesthouse whilst Bai runs the small restaurant and its kitchen of this Nanai road guesthouse.
The Patong beach Baan Nitra Guesthouse is one of the smaller guesthouses in Patong as it offers only 12 guest rooms to travelers and tourists. Although the Baan Nitra Patong guesthouse can’t really be described as being a boutique style guesthouse, I would like to point out that the rooms are very nicely designed and decorated and certainly rank among the nicest of what I have come across during my visit of dozens of guesthouses in Patong beach. Even though there are only 12 rooms available at the Baan Nitra Guesthouse in Patong beach, there are in fact different types of rooms which you can reserve depending on your budget and / or requirements and needs. If you simply want the cheapest room then you can book a fan only room at the Baan Nitra Patong guesthouse which will cost you about 450 Thai Baht per room per night during the low season and will cost you 650 Thai Baht per room per night during the Phuket tourist peak season. The next step up from the fan room would be the standard room which does have air-conditioning and this room type will cost 500 Thai Baht during the low season and will double in price during the peak season. Finally there is also a superior room which offers a nice private balcony and this room costs about 200 Thai Baht per room per night more than the standard room.
All of the guest rooms at the Baan Nitra Guesthouse in Patong beach do come equipped with modern amenities and facilities and which include for example international television programming, complimentary wireless internet access, fridge and daily maid service.
There is also a nice restaurant with bar area which is part of the Patong Baan Nitra Guesthouse. As I mentioned earlier, Bai is in charge of the kitchen and restaurant and the menu consists of mainly delicious Thai dishes as well as several popular Western dishes. In the bar area of the Baan Nitra Patong guesthouse there is also a pool table for those of you who like to shoot some pool. There are safety deposit boxes available at the reception of this guesthouse in Patong where guests can store their valuables. I would also like to point out that Baan Nitra Guesthouse in Patong is one of the only guesthouses along Nanai road which has plenty of parking spaces available for both cars and motorbikes.
