Kata Beach
The Unparalleled Splendor of Kata Beach
The pleasant bay of Kata entices and charms visitors with its clear water and white sand. Popular with families, it is an all round favorite because of its striking palm-lined beach, varied beachfront accommodation options, great restaurants and lively but not rowdy nightlife - all of which are close to the beach.
The beach is split into two areas: Kata South, which is home to several resorts and Kata Center, which is at the northern end and closer to Karon. From November to April Kata beach is alive with sunseekers that engage in parasending, snorkeling, fishing or simply sunbathing; from May to October, surfers from around the world flock to catch Kata's waves.
Most of the beach road is taken up by Club Med, resulting in a well-shaded footpath that is conducive for a pleasant stroll along the stretch. Further on through the village, tourists will find varied shops to browse in, from ready-to-wear outlets to souvenir shops, from local mini-marts to 7-eleven, from name-brand fashion stores to local crafts and design.
There are also tour operators and dive shops for those looking to explore Kata beyond the beach. Dino Park, which is located on the rise between Kata and Karon beaches, is a place for the family to enjoy minigolf, great hamburgers and playful ambiance.
With the exception of Easyrider's Pub with its excellent but loud, live music - and a few beer bars around - nightlife in Kata is mostly relaxed and family oriented. It has many open-air restaurants, bars and shops where most visitors chill and relax in the evening. There are good bars that open late but are very unobtrusive, but to those who seek them out will find them.
Laid back but never boring, there is something for everyone here in Kata Beach.
