Banana Rock Beach
Hidden Pearl in the Andaman Sea
Banana Rock Beach is not well-known to many people as it is relatively isolated. It really is one of Phuket's glittering gems and has the feel and aura of a 'hidden beach'. From the road, finding the steep path through the forest down to the beach is not easy if one does not know where to look. But looking closely, one can spot the hidden beach from the road. Most visitors arrive on boats from nearby beaches.
Banana Rock Beach is located south of Andaman White Beach Resort – a nearly deserted heaven perfect for a private and quiet stay. If one go early in the day, there is a big chance that only the vendors and staff occupy the beach. Even in high season, the beach is only shared by 20-30 tourists in a day.
The beach is divided into two areas by a rock formation where only the southern side has umbrellas and sun beds. The beach has crystal clear water, with about 10 meters visibility from the beach – that is when the water is not calm.
From November to May, Banana Rock Beach has magnificent clear water for swimming but is definitely not a safe swimming beach the other months. At high tide, the waves are known to wash up as far as the tree line so one must be careful where one installs oneself; the extreme ends, southern and northern are perhaps the best bet.
There is a seafood restaurant on the beach that opens during high season. One can sit and enjoy their meal while observing one of the loveliest spots. There are several masseuses that can service you for a reasonable fee – a shaded area right next to the restaurant is exclusively for that service.
Banana Rock Beach is a rare pearl hidden in the Andaman Sea – beautiful and almost deserted.
